Town of Hancock to Consider Partial Payment Plan for Property Taxes

HANCOCK, NY – October 21, 2025 – Town Supervisor Jerry Vernold announced today that he will propose a partial payment plan for real property taxes at the regular Town Board meeting scheduled for November 5, 2025.

The proposed plan would allow Hancock taxpayers to pay their property taxes in installments during the tax collection period, which runs from January 1 through April 30 each year.

Under the proposed program:

• Taxpayers may make up to two partial payments on their tax bill

• A minimum first payment of 50% of the total bill must be made by January 31

• The remaining balance must be paid in full within the next three penalty periods:

  • February: Balance plus 1% penalty

  • March: Balance plus 2% penalty

  • April: Balance plus 3% penalty

• All taxes must be paid in full by April 30, or unpaid balances will be returned to the Delaware County Treasurer for collection

• No partial payments will be accepted after April 30

"This program is designed to help taxpayers who may have difficulty paying their entire property tax bill at once," Supervisor Vernold said. "We recognize that for many residents on fixed incomes or facing financial difficulties, the ability to spread payments over a few months can make a real difference."

"I would like to thank Ronda Williams, whose presentation at her Hancock community forum, brought her success in Walton with this program to my attention," Vernold added.

Property owners who participate in the partial payment plan will be responsible for keeping track of amounts due. No follow-up or reminder bills will be sent.

The Town Board will discuss and schedule a public hearing on the proposal at its regular meeting on November 5, 2025. Members of the public are encouraged to attend.
