veterans day

The Hancock community will proudly come together on November 11th and 12th to honor and celebrate our nation’s veterans — past and present — with a series of heartfelt local events.

Thursday, November 11th: A Day of Tribute and Togetherness

The day begins with the Hancock Legion Post 289 Veterans Day Service at 11:00 a.m. in the Town Square. This annual service offers residents a moment to pause, reflect, and express gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who have served in our armed forces. All members of the community are invited to attend and show their support.

Following the ceremony, the Hancock United Methodist Church will host its 15th Annual Veterans Day Dinner from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event welcomes veterans from across the tri-state region and their guests for an afternoon of fellowship, gratitude, and a traditional fried chicken meal. The gathering includes a Blessing of Veterans — a touching reminder of the community’s enduring respect for its servicemen and women.

Friday, November 12th: Honoring Service in Our Schools

On Friday morning, Hancock Central School will hold a special Veterans Day Assembly beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Elementary School “C” building. All veterans — both past and currently serving — are encouraged to attend. The assembly offers students the opportunity to meet local heroes, hear their stories, and understand the meaning of sacrifice and service firsthand.

Restoring Honor Through Action

In recent months, the community has worked tirelessly to ensure that Hancock’s Veterans Banners, a cherished tribute organized through Legacy of Honor built and maintained by Cindy and Randy Whiting.

The community is so happy to see them returned to their rightful place along the community’s utility poles. Through close collaboration with Archtop Fiber and Hancock Telephone Company, this effort has seen remarkable success — a visible sign of Hancock’s ongoing commitment to honoring those who have served.

A Community United in Gratitude

From the solemn service in the Town Square to the shared fellowship of a community meal and the inspiring school assembly, Hancock’s Veterans Day observances reflect the heart of the town — one that values honor, service, and remembrance.

The Town of Hancock extends sincere thanks to every veteran and their families. Your courage and sacrifice continue to inspire us all.

Let us come together this Veterans Day to remember, reflect, and give thanks.
