HANCOCK, N.Y. — The Hancock Rotary Club rolled up its sleeves Friday morning for a community beautification project, giving the Rotary Clock and surrounding donor recognition area a much-needed refresh in the heart of downtown Hancock.

With favorable weather and a shared commitment to community service, Rotarians gathered for an impromptu cleanup that resulted in a dramatic improvement to one of Hancock's most recognizable landmarks.

Leading the effort was Crew Chief Jerry Van Mater, who supplied the tools, power washer, equipment, and expertise needed to tackle the project.

Joining him were:

  • Patrick O'Brien

  • Mike O'Brien

  • Cindy Argiros

  • Lori Rae Silver

  • Town of Hancock Supervisor Jerry Vernold (despite recovering from an injured arm)

  • Valerie Rogers-Garcia

  • Susan Bick

Together, the volunteers completed a wide range of improvements, including:

  • Pressure washing the clock and surrounding stonework

  • Reinforcing sections of the decorative fence

  • Rehanging donor recognition plaques

  • Cleaning the memorial stones

  • Pulling weeds and freshening the landscape

  • Filling gaps with new pea stone to improve the appearance of the site

Rotarian Lori Rae Silver suggested adding fresh pea stone throughout the landscaped beds, giving the entire area a cleaner, more polished look.

The Rotary Club also extends its sincere appreciation to Archtop Fiber and The Hancock Telephone Company, whose staff generously provided access to water and electricity, making the cleanup possible.

"This was another great example of neighbors helping neighbors," said members of the Rotary Club. "Small projects like this make a big difference in keeping Hancock welcoming for residents and visitors alike."

The refreshed Rotary Clock area now stands ready to welcome everyone enjoying downtown Hancock throughout the summer and serves as another reminder of the Rotary Club's longstanding commitment to community service.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and energy to help keep Hancock looking its best!
